Characters in Peragro Tempus are defined, mechanically, by their Skills and Abilities. There are no classes, nor levels. The capabilities of a character are entirely determined by the choices made by a player as they interact with the world. By choosing which actions their character uses to respond to the environment a player determines which skills and abilities progress. Similarly, they can increase their rate of improvement, or change path, simply by finding a teacher who can give them the basics in a new skill or set of skills.

Character Creation
Every character must first make the choice whether they start in the Past or the Future. They make this choice with a base character sheet that shows a rating of 1 in each Ability and 0 in every skill.
Past
The player is then given 155 experience points to spend on skills and abilities.
No single skill or ability may be higher than 5 at character creation, and some skills may not be selected at all. Only one Magic skill may be selected, and it must match the character's Kingdom of origin. If the character selects skills that provide spells or Maneuvers they may choose one from a list of those that are available at character creation.
Future
The player is then given 620 experience points to spend on skills and abilities.

Personal Resources
A character has certain resources that are inherant to their person and are derived from their Abilities. These resources include Hit Points, Stamina, and Willpower.
