Antiquity

The ages preceeding the Age of Empires are almost totally obscured by the works of the Age of Empires.

Age of Empires

At some point in the dim past a series of large kingdoms and dynasties arose. Little is known of these, often sprawling, empires as the records which remain are incomplete. Many have left ruins strewn across a limited area, though the writing and archetchecture of least one of these empires has been found on every major continent. Evidence indicates that it was near the end of these empires that the first applications of Magic were found, and towards the end of this Age the Portals were first identified.

While much of the information these empires posessed seems incomplete, outdated, or simply mistaken (often the number of portals is incorrectly identified as 1, 2, or 4), much remains useful to modern scholars. Similarly, the style of currency currently in use seems to date from this era- having maintained value through the intervening Age and thus providing a simple, and neutral, standard when the three great kingdoms later rose.

There are many unanswered questions regarding this age, including the great mystery of what caused these great empires to collapse so completely. Some scholars of questionable repute have flown in the face of known facts to theorize that the Age of Empires was ended by the arrival of Humans, attributing the achievements of the age to some, hitherto unknown, alternate race. Among government researchers, the great questions are why there is no record of using the Portals to arrive in the current Age, or to percieve the Cataclysm.

Age of Tribes

Sometimes called the First Interregnum, this age began after some unknown event ended the Age of Empires. Ironically, this end of this dark age is the first substantial, coherant record posessed of human history on Phoria. During this tiem the people of Phoria were isolated, scattering thier development culturally and linguistically. This age would last over two thousand years before civilization would again raise great cities and kingdoms.

Age of Kingdoms

As certain tribes established dominance over their areas, establishing the kingdoms of Vaaloria, Kvalis, and Oro, the Age of Tribes was brought to a close. Civilization spread, the Portals were rediscovered and knowledge of Magic and science reaccumulated.

Duration

Vaaloria

796 years since founding.

Oro

About 556 years old.

Kvalis

303 years since founding.

Age of Ashes

Rarely referred to by scholars, most of which are unaware of the existance of this coming Age from their vantage in the Past, this is sometimes called the Second or Great Interregnum. This period has a clear beginning with the cataclysm which ended the age of the three kingdoms. It is only signficantly beginning to wain as tribes of humans reclaim the land from the Cataclysm. A few researchers quietly ask if this Age might, in fact, be simply a repetition of the Age of Tribes- time itself repeating much as history is said to.

Age of Monsters/Age of Rebirth

Often referred to by travelers simply as "the Future," this time is one of great fear and opportunity. This age sits at the far end of the portals from the Three Kingdoms.
