Movement
From Peragro Tempus Wiki
Rate
Note; currently PT movement rates are coded at 4 walk 8 run. Whatever that means. The following numbers and equations replace those values.
A character can move at the following rates;
- Stop- The absence of movement. The character is at rest, either standing, sitting or otherwise. The character regenerates stamina (and willpower) at their highest rates when not moving.
- Walk- The character moves at a rate equal to the square root of their Speed, this is treated as their base movement. They regenerate stamina at one half their resting rate. This speed is generally used to regenerate stamina while still moving.
- Hustle- Generally represented by a slow jog or a march- the character moves half-again their base movement. A character moving at a hustle expends one point of Stamina per 10 minutes of movement. This speed is generally used for covering long distances quickly.
- Run- A solid jog, double-time march, or other significant pace. The character moves twice as fast as a hustle (3x their base movement) but spends their Stamina much more quickly. Running consumes a point of Stamina per minute.
- Sprint- Generally reserved for life or death situations, a Sprint doubles the speed of a Run (6x base movement) but consumes the character's Stamina very quickly. A point of Stamina is spent every second the character sprints.
Stamina expenditure timers do not automatically reset if a character changes to a Walk or Stop. The counter instead reverses, measuring time before the recovery rate kicks in. If the character moves between different Stamina-spending movement rates all counters remain "active," ready to resume until they are counted down or expend a point of Stamina. If multiple timers must be counted down they do so in sequence, not concurrently.
A character has a 10% chance of gaining an experience point towards Speed each time a point of the character's Stamina is expended for their movement.
An encumbered character moves more slowly than normal.
Method
A character can move through space in the following ways:
- Walking
- Swimming
- Flying
- Riding
Generally, a character is limited to walking or, if in water, swimming. The purchase or rental of a mount may allow a character to Ride, while some spells, abilities, and mounts will allow flight.
Jumping
The distance along the arc of a character's jump is determined by their Speed and current movement rate normally (treating a jump from standing as a shift to a Walking rate), unless their Strength is lower than their Speed. If their Strength is lower it substitutes for Speed, reducing the distance jumped accordingly.
The trajectory of a jump is determined by the rate at which the character was moving just before initiating the jump;
- Standing- Vertical jump.
- Walking- 30 degrees from vertical.
- Hustling- 45 degrees from vertical.
- Running- 60 degrees from vertical. (30 degrees above horizontal.)
- Sprinting- 75 degrees from vertical. (15 degrees above the horizontal.)
Jumping immediately reduces the character's current Stamina.
