Swimming
From Peragro Tempus Wiki
- very preliminary page...
Several skills provide access to the specialization of Swimming, including Fisher and Mariner. Each second the character remains within water they make a check of (lower agility or strength) * (lower fisher or mariner) + (swimming specialty). (unlike most specialties, experience and ranks earned towards the swimming specialty from either Fisher or Mariner are cumulative), with a penalty determined by the speed at which the character attempts to move (+10 if still, -0 for walking, -10 for hustling, -20 for running, -40 for sprinting), a further penalty equal to the weight they carry, and a -20 penalty for each full hand (with an additional -20 if both hands are full with the same item). Further, the bulk of their equipment may foul a swimming check just as an attack.
The percentage success achieved is the percent of the character's movement rate they can move- thus sprinting can be advantageous to a strong swimmer, but would be disastrous to a weak swimmer.
If a character fails a check they begin to sink, and may begin drowning.
Regardless of success or failure, stamina is spent as normal while hustling, running, or sprinting. If walking, stamina is neither gained nor lost, and remaining still allows only half normal stamina regeneration.
In addition to adverse effects to skill checks from weight carried, a character may be subject to additional penalties due to encumbrance.
